Dear VSC users and friends,
the year and also the training year 2024 is coming to an end, but in
December we still do have 2 courses for you:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Python for HPC
09.+11.+13.12.2024, 09:00 - 16:30
https://events.vsc.ac.at/e/Python4HPC-2024-12
During the past ten years, Python has seen a meteoric rise in both
popularity and demand not only in general purpose programming but also
in scientific computing. Data science and machine learning further
contributed to this trend. Despite Python's architectural shortcomings,
even the field of High-Performance Computing (HPC), with its highly
specific demands, profited from recent developments with various
libraries and optimizations.
This course shows the interested participant how to put Python to use on
an HPC cluster as the VSC, how to optimize the code to increase
performance, how to parallelize code for single and multi-node
deployment as well as GPU offloading. Participants will be introduced to
the most practical tools and various indispensable libraries for HPC use
cases.
After completion of this three-day course, participants are able to
create the environment they need on an HPC cluster, optimize and
parallelize their Python use-cases and submit their jobs for batch
processing on a supercomputer.
The content is delivered online over a three-day period with a day off
after each course day. This should enable participants to have enough
time to revisit the covered topics and come up with questions on the
next course day.
Registration deadline is Monday, 2 December 2024.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction to Deep Learning
16.-17.12.2024, 09:00 - 16:30
https://events.vsc.ac.at/e/DL-2024-12
Deep Learning (DL) has enjoyed a surge in popularity during the last
decade. This is mainly owed to the fact that DL is computationally quite
expensive and needs vast amounts of data to train useful models. Both,
computational resources and large datasets have become more readily
available in recent years, leading to breakthroughs in DL applications.
This course aims at interested participants from all domains, who have
not yet jumped on the bandwagon of the DL trend.
The course will cover the basic principles of fully connected neural
networks, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for computer vision,
recurrent neural networks (RNNs) for text or speech recognition,
transfer learning to leverage pre-trained models, and touch on large
language models (LLMs) which have become all the rage in the past year.
This course is fully booked, but you can still sign up for the waiting
list.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are currently setting up the course program for the first months of
2025, please stay tuned and find the up to date information about all
VSC training events here:

Best regards,
VSC training team
Dear VSC users and friends,
we would like to draw your attention to our upcoming VSC training events
and highlight a few of them that will take place in the next two weeks:
* Parallelization with MPI
* Navigating the AI Journey - Taking the Plunge
* Webinar: AI for Weather and Climate: How Machine Learning Boosts
Forecasting
* All other upcoming training events
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parallelization with MPI
18.-21.11.2024, 09:30 - 14:00 CET, TU Wien and online
https://events.vsc.ac.at/e/MPI-2024-11
Parallel programming never gets out of style and a basic understanding
of the Message Passing Interface (MPI) is essential for most users of
HPC systems, especially for those who write or contribute to scientific
software. We'll start from beginners level and hands-on labs will allow
to immediately test and understand the basic MPI constructs,
participants can choose between C, Fortran, and Python.
Students (of TU Wien and of other Austrian universities via a
co-registration) can earn ECTS for VSC-School I.
Grab one of the last seats for in-person participation and there are
enough places for online participation to accommodate everyone.
Registration deadline is 11 November 2024.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Navigating the AI Journey - Taking the Plunge
11.11.2024, 09:30 - 12:30 CET, INiTS (for CEOs and CTOs)
https://events.vsc.ac.at/e/AI_journey-2024-11
Want to turn your AI ideas into reality?
Not sure where to start or how to scale?
We're inviting founders and entrepreneurs to a dedicated workshop on 11
November where we'll share knowledge bits, best practices, and reports
from the trenches to help you navigate the AI journey - from ideation to
development, launch, and maintenance of a product.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Webinar: AI for Weather and Climate: How ML Boosts Forecasting
13.11.2024, 10:00 - 12:00 CET, online
https://events.vsc.ac.at/e/ai-weather-climate
You will hear from experts on the following topics:
* the latest advancements and potential of Machine Learning for
weather and climate
* how VSC helped to accurately predict maritime wave height for better
ship routing systems
* the data-driven forecasting system AIFS from the European Centre for
Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).
